With my 2008 June bill,
centurytel.com/
included a flyer for the
dishnetwork.com/
which apparently is the same as
4digitaltv.com/
Via SnailMail, I got a flyer from Dish Network.
The ads proclaimed 100 channels INCLUDING your local channels,
plus DVR (HD DVR = Hi Def Digital Video Recorder),
free Professional installation and no activation fee. |
I made the call to CenturyTel on or about 2008-07-01.
800-201-4099 - the operator forwarded me to the
Billing / Product Service / New Department.
The operator identified herself as Lynette . |

CenturyTel scheduled my Satellite Installation :
July 11 in the pm - By DishNetwork
I called DISH NETWORK - 1-888-957-3474 on 2008-07-09.
I spoke to Kelly. I was assured that the cables would go under the trailer and
the dish would be installed on a pole. |
2008-07-11 (Thursday). The technician from DishNetwork arrived in the AM. I did not get his name. It was raining heavily. I had no idea of what the dish looked like, or what was involved. I thought it was going to go on a pole. He said, that putting it on a pole would be involved, he would service other customers, and come back. |
I have cancer, heart disease, an aortic aneurism and emphysema.
I am helpless and informed him I could do little to assist him |
The technician from DishNetwork returned in the PM. He was looking for a sighting, where he could find the satellite. After much discussion, I figured that the NW corner of the trailer, would do the job. |
Then came the discussion of the pole. He said the pole was only 8 feet long, and he did not have a mechanical digger. Then I saw the dish - I had no idea it was that small. We decided to attach it to the side of the trailer. He did not want to run the cable under the trailer as the salesperson said it would be. |
From there, I should have sent him home. But, I tried to be nice. |
From here on, I am at fault. I should not have signed anything without reading the contract, and making certain that there were copies under each contract. When he was finished, he hustled to sign the contracts. He covered the check list - and insisted that I sign it. He left me with a contract that was blank - not copies of what I had signed. |
Page 2 is for the photo documentation.
First, he did not attach the dish up high, out of harm's way. The base is only 4 feet off the ground - it is low. There was a fixation point at 7 feet that would have been ideal. |
The receiver box has faulty phone components. The tech had problems hooking it up.
From the remote, push menu. #6 = Setup / #3 = Diagnostics
Press Connection, Dial Out or Send Status, and it results in "Failure".
The test has to be done repeatedly, until a success finally occurs.
A message comes up saying there will be extra monthly charges. What is the extra change? The web site does not have any answers.

Q: What happens if I don't keep my satellite receiver constantly plugged in to my phone line?
A: You will be unable to order pay-per-view programs with your remote control — you'll need to order by phone each time. Also, there is a small additional charge for each program ordered by phone. The phone connection is required for pay-per-view ordering and billing purposes only. You will not incur any additional charges on your monthly phone bill. |
Page 2 is a photo record of what happened at installation:
When I called for sign up, I was told the cable could go under trailer.
The tech left the cable in the grass.
The tech used a power drill to go through the wall - to the outside. This left gaping holes, and damaged the outside
walls. He then used silicone to fill the one hole in the bedroom. I had to seal the outside and try to repair the damage
he did. See photo of the mess, the goop is all over the wall. The holes are of outrageous size.
